NAME: Daihannya Nagamitsu
CANON: Touken Ranbu
CANON POINT: Post stage play Hiden Yui no Me no Hototogisu
AGE: 800+ (We don't know the exact year he was forged but we do know an estimate which would put him around this age.)
BACKGROUND: Sword Wiki and Sword History (Note: His experiences will be taken from the stage play mentioned but some references to his personality and such are also drawn from the game.)
A brief summary of Hiden:
After being summoned to the citadel, he goes on missions as usual with the others. Daihannya is even shown in a brotherly role to Honebami who is struggling with the fact that he doesn't have any of his memories. And he lets him know that it's okay. Along the way strange warriors keep attacking during missions to the front lines. One of them has some familiarity to him like he's another sword. While this is happening, Mikazuki shows some unusual behavior that everyone is taking note of. Things get worse when it turns out the enemy has prevented the death of someone meant to die and the sword at his side is made up of multiple swords including Mikazuki, Honebami, and Daihannya. Before they can resolve this, the citadel is attacked and Mikazuki goes with the enemy. Daihannya and Honebami go with him, declaring they will trust his instincts and him despite his suspicious behavior.
The other swords come to find them and manage to defeat the enemy but it turns out that the Saniwa is using a ritual to dismantle Mikazuki. This puts a strain on him which turns into the time loop starting to swallow everything because it's tangled around Mikazuki. Yamanbagiri is the one who finally breaks him to end it all. The swords then go on to live their lives, to find their new paths and Daihannya supports Honebami as he decides he wants to become stronger. In the end, Mikazuki is forged again.
PERSONALITY: When presenting himself to the world, people will find Daihannya to be rather calm and composed. He has something of an aura of sophistication with how he dresses and stands. Often one will find him smiling as he elegantly steps forward to present himself or even if he's just lingering in the background. He has a steady presence that makes him rather easy to get along with while also not necessarily causing him to stand out from a crowd too much.
One of his favorite hobbies is that of flirtation. If someone is beautiful in his eyes then one can be sure that he will be flirting with them. Often it will be completely harmless, just pretty words to describe a person as he's talking to them but sometimes he might be a little more serious. Either way he enjoys the activity since the flustered responses can be so enjoyable. One can even sometimes find him avoiding work as he sits back to admire someone beautiful instead, claiming to have been too distracted by them to do his tasks. And it also ties into his admiration of works of art as well. Because he has such an appreciation and love for fine arts that he tends to extend them into other aspects of his life. For the most part.
A large part of this is due to the fact that he's quite frugal. He dislikes waste and dislikes spending too much for things that are not necessary. Should something be spent for something so unimportant or something just thrown out while it still has use, he will express great disappointment over the waste. These things could have been put to better use and one shouldn't have to break the bank to look utterly amazing. Or to have wonderful things.
With that said, he does have his indulgences. He loves to have a drink of sake, believing that drinking it brings wisdom in life. Should there be confusion in a companion he will gladly share a drink and some conversation to help them on their path again. He also appears to always want to look his best, even wearing a vest, dress shirt, and cravat under his track suit that he wears while in the citadel. Japanese history and culture knows him as a beautiful sword so that is something that he works to maintain. One will always find him in the most well tailored clothing as a result and his hair managed to perfection.
In battle he is a fierce fighter who will have the back of his companions while also not backing down for a moment. He believes in getting a fight done quickly and if he becomes injured it's time to pull himself together to finish things. As a sword it's important to him that he give it his all. But it's also important to note that he will also decide where his loyalties fall and they are more likely to fall with his fellow swords than with others. This includes whoever his master is at the time.
To understand this further, one only need look at his history. He is a sword who has had many, many, many masters. After being used by one, he would be passed to another as a gift. Or perhaps a master would fall and he'd be passed on to someone new. Because of this he has the expectation that his time with those who are his master is but a temporary state of being. At some point that master is sure to pass him on to the next master and so on. While he will follow the will of his master, one could say that he's not necessarily steadfastly loyal. Not like he is to his fellow swords who he has been in battles with and who he has truly experienced so many things with. They are the ones that he believes in because they have been through much of the same things that he has. They understand. From having new human bodies to losing masters to being used for battle...
One might think he'd have a hard time with this feeling. This feeling of always being aware that somehow his masters will hand him off at some point. But instead he's just come to accept that this is a fact of his life. There's no reason to be sad or angry about it. It simply is what it is. And at least he can admire beautiful things and people along the way. Some in the universe can't even be allowed that much but this is something he can see often.
So he's at peace with his lot in life and here to support his fellow swords to the best of his ability. At least until the time comes for him to have to move on.
POWERS/ABILITIES: Like the other swords, Daihannya is a tsukumogami. His appearance is that of a human but his body is able to handle greater amount of damage while also being able to deal greater amounts of damage in combat. He can also go longer without being fatigued and his soul is tied to the sword he carries on him so damage to it or him will be reflected on the other. It should be noted that among the tachi he ranks higher than average for most of his stats but is one of the lowest when it comes to spotting enemy formations while being one of the highest when it comes to hiding details from the enemy.
If damaged he can be repaired, a process that can take a bit of time depending on how injured he is. However, if he is broken then he will simply die. According to Touken Ranbu, if a sword is broken then he can only be brought back by reforging him.
Also he is very good at recognizing beauty in things around him. Which doesn't exactly count as a supernatural ability but I felt like it should be mentioned anyway.
